Jason Thompson wanted to start. But despite averaging 11.3 points on 58.8 percent shooting and grabbing 6.8 rebounds and 24 minutes in his first five games, the Kings‘ rookie forward remained a reserve.
Ordinarily, the decision by coach Reggie Theus to stay with starter Mikki Moore would have been expected. But Thompson’s play came with the backdrop of Moore playing some of the worst basketball of his 11-year career. Thompson, however, would eventually get his chance.
